On this episode of Let's Play Genealogy, we are finding Mortiz Maschke - the mad photographer from a mysterious and haunting 1890s photograph. I received the hauting photo from a DNA cousins match. At the time, I had no idea how I was related to Moritz. Turns out, I'm connected to Moritz in more than one way. Looking back, Moritz is an Ancestral Ghost who has been trying to connect since 2017. But that's a story for another day...

Mortiz Maschke was born 1861 in Prussia Stargard and died in 1909 in Graudenz, Prussia (present-day Grudziadz, Poland) Moritz was a Jewish lithographer, photographer, postcard maker, book binder and book publisher in the 1890s-1910s. His death certificate lists that he died in an insane asylym.


On this episode of Ancestry Mystery, we are finding clues about Moritz Maschke, the mad Jewish photographer and ancestral ghost who was haunting my family tree.

Conrad signed the marriage certificate for Leopold and Anna Goldfarb. Conrad's parents are listed on his newspaper obituary. I recently disocvered that Conrad died in Berlin but his wife and children ended up in Bogota, Colombia. This is where I was born. We had no idea we have family living in the same country as refugees.
