Art vs Design | Jesse Showalter Vlog

I have had the conversation about whether or not Art and Design are the same thing, about 1,000 times and still think it's worth talking about. This time my wife and I are out and about at the Austin Contemporary Art Museum and I experience both art and design which leads me back to the question yet again.

I also reveal my nerdy love of signage, my lack of understanding of a certain piece of audible art, and battle a giant bug while hiking through the woods, all in all, a pretty good day.

My wife is a strong woman with firm opinions and I respect that, so it's always fun to have the conversation and then walk away holding hands.

Design is solving a problem | Art is raising a question.
Design is conclusive | Art is an open debate.
Design is being an actor and following a script | Art is writing and interpreting your own story.
Design is the mind looking for solutions | Art is the voice of the soul.
Design needs a collective acceptance | Art only needs an inner approval.
Design is an act of empathy | Art is an act of freedom.
