(Q. There are reports that the establishment of an interim government is being delayed.)
"I don't know where those stories are coming from because we haven't delayed anything. My colleague the British Ambassador and I had a very productive meeting with some Iraqi leaders on the subject in Baghdad on Friday night.
We told them that our coalition authority is intent on moving forward as quickly as we can."

STORYLINE:

America's administrator in Iraq went north on Sunday, meeting a US-installed city council in turbulent Mosul and appraising the challenges of restoring order to the ethnically volatile region.

Paul Bremer met behind closed doors with Mosul's council nearly a week into his tenure as Iraq's imposed civilian administrator.

The council was installed earlier this month by Mosul political figures under US supervision.

Bremer paid tribute to newly established city council in Mosul.

Meanwhile, more than 100 protesters gathered to protest their displacement from their homes by returning Kurds who had been forced to leave during Saddam Hussein's rule.

Speaking to the media, Bremer denied reports that there was a delay in setting up an Iraqi interim authority.

Bremer was also briefed by Major General David H. Petraeus, commander of the US Army's 101st Airborne Division.
