When they chip, most golfers forget to actually read the green before they execute their shot. If they were just a few feet closer to the hole - on the green and with a putter - these same golfers would never putt before reading the green for any breaks. Yet when they have a wedge in hand just off the green, they just concentrate on hitting their chip shot, straight at the flag.

What happens is that a well executed chip aimed directly at the flag may end up far away from the hole. What should have been a gimme putt ends up being a possible and frustrating two-putt.

Remember to always read the green when chipping.
