My reaction to Too Turnt Tony making up a story about a shark attacking him and his duck and about how he is set out to hunt it down. Sadly videos and made up stories like this are in educational harmful to shark conservation! As someone that states they care about animals this is extremely disappointing. Making up false narratives about a shark attack, and showing off that you’re “hunting” it down to get revenge is setting a horrible example to the many people who might have misperceptions about these beautiful animals.

Unfortunately shark conservation is made even more challenging by the fear people have of them. Thinking a shark could attack them at any moment, so falsifying a story about this is adding to that misperception. And stating that catch and release fishing is not harmful simply is not true. For some species the rate of post release mortality is low, but for many others it is very high! Many species will swim off appearing fine and then will still face mortality hours after their struggle being caught on a fishing line. Luckily the shark you caught was one that has a higher resilience, but many people cannot differentiate species, so they cannot tell if it is a more resilient shark. You also cannot select which shark species you are aiming for when catch and release fishing from a beach so you could very easily catch a shark that is not as hardy and is more likely to not survive.

Exploiting an animal by cracking a can on its teeth while it is suffocating on a beach, and suffering unsure of its future does not demonstrate a love for animals. I hope you can see this information and inform your followers about the reality of these types of practices. Although it is meant as a joke this is extremely harmful to sharks globally, and if you truly love animals it should be taken seriously.
