Part of our 20th Anniversary Concert!

All Too Soon is described by the composer as “a lament for the young who must leave, but also a tribute to the ancient land and the even more ancient sea on which all Maritimers depend.” The text is by Stephen Hatfield, using traditional Celtic and Breton tunes to honour the multiple cultural and linguistic influences brought by the European settlers of Nova Scotia. Stephen Hatfield was born and lives in British Columbia, where he has worked for decades as a leading Canadian composer and clinician. He came to Ottawa in 2013 as the guest conductor for the MosaiK festival, and that year he composed the MosaiK theme song which is still performed each year at the festival that Harmonia hosts.
