Quite a nice day today, but it did start wet which made things a bit slow. I had physical therapy for my ankle fracture in the morning so wasted a lot of daylight, still managed to just finish the joist placement as the light faded.

Made a jig on a scrap PT 2x12 for cutting the joists to length. I wish I had more of the 2x6x16s left that I made the double full-span joist with, that would have been much easier than the central header. Although those last two 2x6x16s were a bit warped and not completely clear. The 2x6x8s are generally easier to get find nice clear ones. There is plenty of support and I will add some connectors at the beam when I secure the joists to the plates.

I think I'll revisit how I placed the first joist and central header at the gable wall. It is eating up some of the ridge beam post bearing area. I could totally block this up and plane it flat, but yeah, I can just move that joist slightly and have a much easier time with the gable framing and have the post directly bear on the plates and loft floor beam.

So clean-up the gable end, and toenail tack the plate ends of the joists and we can do the subfloor. The joists will be thru-nailed to the rafters once they are placed, the rafters sit right alongside the joists directly over studs. This does mean there is a shear moment from the loft joists in the top plates, but the loft loading is smaller than the roof loading (which will be simply supported by the studs) and the doubled plates are extremely strong, the area in shear is 3x5.5 while the joist's own shear area from its support over the plates is half that. If I was really worried I'd double the studs, but it is not necessary.
