Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Curt Push To Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with a side load battery. Now, normally you do not hitch up a trailer expecting a breakaway situation, but that doesn't mean you should be towing unprepared. So you wanna be ready for anything with this Curt breakaway kit here. Now one note I do wanna mention is a breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a gross towing weight of at least 3000 pounds. This kit will include everything laid out here on the table.

It'll include the breakaway switch, the battery case with the push to test charger on it. On the inside is a 12 volt five amp power lead acid battery. Comes with the mounting hardware and a nice set of instructions that describes how it connects and how it operates. Now this kit will make sure your trailer safely stops if it happens to separate from your vehicle. Basically what happens is when the pin right here gets pulled out from the switch, a signal is then sent back to activate your trailer's brakes.

The built-in battery charger and tester right here will automatically charge the battery with the built-in charger connected to your vehicle. It doesn't overcharge the battery and it lets you test the battery status with just the push of the green button right here. Basically, when you push that, right now it'll say fully charged. If you push it again and it happens, the middle light comes on, that means it needs to be recharged. And then bottom one will say it's charging.

The battery on the inside is an internal lead acid battery, works great in high temperatures. The charger wire length right here is about 12 inches. Now this is designed to mount on the outside of your trailer's frame. It is a side loading case. Basically if you unscrew those two screws, it'll swing open this way.

So that side loading case provides easy access to the battery and the switch itself right here is what installs on your trailer frame, which they include self-tapping screws, and they even include screws for the battery case. The lead wire length right here is about 24 inches. The breakaway cable length on this end is about 51 inches. The battery case itself will, it's a durable plastic case, protects the battery from rain and debris. This is DOT, Department of Transportation, compliant. Application, again, this will work on single, tandem and triple axle trailers with electric brakes. The battery capacity on the inside here, voltage is 12 volts, type is lead acid, capacity is five amp hours. And the last thing I wanna do, just give you some measurements on this. We're gonna measure the battery box right here and the widest part is gonna be the back here. You can see where the mounting tab stick out. So if we put a ruler on the widest part, it's right at six inches long. The depth of it back to the front, right about 3-3/4" deep and the height of it is right at about five inches tall. Now the mounting holes, if you wanna know where these mounting holes measurements are horizontally, they would be center to center, 5-1/2" , vertically center to center about 3-3/4".
