This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Lincoln Aviator PHEV, a 3-row mid-size SUV with electrification and lots of power. The Lincoln Aviator PHEV is loaded with features and has a starting price of $85,400 CAD/$69,190 USD. In Canada, there is just one trim, but you can add some extra features, our test model is priced at $101,130 CAD. In the US, there are two trims, the top Black Label Grand Touring model is $89,280 USD.
Here’s what comes standard in the Aviator, a 10.1” touchscreen with Sync 3, a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, 360-degree camera, heated and ventilated power front seats, driver seat memory, premium leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, 14 speaker Revel Audio system, Lincoln Connect, 2nd row Captain’s chairs, power fold third row seats, forward and rear parking sensors and ambient lighting.
The Aviator has a smooth and comfortable drive, a quiet cabin and softer suspension. The EV range isn’t great at 34 km/21 miles, we used it up quite quickly. It gets about 713 km/460 miles of overall range.
This is a beast when it comes to power especially with a combined 630 lb-ft of torque, however I found the power delivery to be a bit unrefined at times depending on the drive mode you choose. There are plenty of modes including Excite which is my favourite, Preserve EV designed to sustain the existing charge and Pure EV which is all electric driving. You do hear the gas engine come on in Pure EV when accelerating quickly or passing on the highway.
The Grand Touring is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 with a hybrid system and a 10-speed automatic transmission, it gets a combined 494 horsepower, standard AWD and has a 13.8 kWh battery.
With a full battery, the Aviator gets 4.2Le/100 km, 56 MPGe and when the battery is depleted, 10.3L/100km, 23 MPG combined.
The Lincoln Aviator qualifies for a tax credit in the US up to $6,534 but is not eligible for the Federal rebate in Canada.
