WAXAHACHIE, TX — Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched at 10:30 p.m. Monday, April, 27, to a location at Farm-to-Market 876 and Bell Branch Road in reference to a mother and daughter who were trapped in their car in high water.

Upon arrival, the deputies saw water over the roadway. The victims were not visible, but Waxahachie Fire Department (WFD) personnel said they were on the roof of their car about 150 yards out in the very swift water. In addition to WFD, Red Oak Fire Department, Forreston Fire Department and game wardens had responded to the scene and began rescuing the victims.

The mother, 45, was rescued first. CareFlite gave her medical attention on scene and she was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. The daughter, 20, was rescued second and also was transported to Baylor in Waxahachie. Both women were responsive after their rescue.

The daughter said she was taking her mother to work and was driving down Farm-to-Market 876. She said she was driving about 20 mph and didn’t see the water over the road. She said when they felt the car start washing off of the roadway, she rolled the window down and called 911.

The car, a Ford Taurus, washed off of the roadway and became lodged on two trees, stopping the car in about 4 feet of water. The two women climbed out of the window and sat on top of the car until they were rescued.
