We are delighted to see so many interesting abstracts for the Doctoral School Conference again this year. It promises to be even more successful than the conference last year, which was notable for the highly professional presentations and intellectually stimulating content. We were particularly pleased with the success of the collaborative environment Elluminate
LIVE! which we used for the first time. The quality of the work produced by postgraduate researchers at the Institute continues to impress, and I am looking forward to participating in the sessions again this year. Groups of students with similar research interests have organised symposia and these are listed on page 10. In addition, some international colleagues from the Indonesian University of Education are joining us to give presentations this year. I am also very pleased that Professor Michael Reiss and Professor Deborah Youdell will be delivering keynote speeches.

The Doctoral School will publish the abstracts from this year‟s Conference in a special section of Educate ~ The Journal of Doctoral Research in Education. Conference participants may wish to develop their presentations further into research notes, critical reviews or research papers for publication in the journal.

Educate ~ is published online and can be accessed at www.educatejournal.org. One of the most effective ways of organising one‟s
thinking is to make a presentation, and the task of producing the PowerPoint presentation and/or the handouts really helps to sort out ideas. Every year participants comment on how the Conference presentation had helped them to clarify their ideas and to move forward with their research: I hope that this year will be equally successful and effective in that way. Thanks to all staff who have helped to organise the Conference and to all postgraduate researchers who are participating. I very much look forward to the event.
