Vishavjit Singh: From Bullying to Oscar-Qualified Director & Sikh Captain America

Описание к видео Vishavjit Singh: From Bullying to Oscar-Qualified Director & Sikh Captain America

In this episode, we meet Vishavjit Singh, an American-born, turban-wearing Sikh who has spent much of his life confronting prejudice, bullying, and hate.

Born in Washington, D.C. to Indian immigrant parents, Vishavjit faced hostility both in the U.S. and in India, where his unique identity made him a target for bullying. When he later moved to Los Angeles, the warm welcome he had hoped for didn’t materialize, as hate and intolerance continued to follow him.

Despite these challenges, Vishavjit found a way to fight back—not with anger, but through art, education, and a superhero costume. He became widely known for portraying a turbaned, bearded Captain America, using his persona to challenge stereotypes and redefine what it means to be an American in a post-9/11 world.

Now, as the co-director of the Oscar-qualified animated short film American Sikh, Vishavjit shares his journey from engineer to cartoonist and activist. This inspiring film, backed by notable producers like Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna and Oscar-winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, tells the powerful story of one man’s fight against hate through creativity and courage.

Join us as we explore his extraordinary journey, the making of American Sikh, and the impact his work continues to have in promoting diversity and inclusion.
