YouTube or Film School? by Dave McCary (Director of BRIGSBY BEAR)

BRIGSBY BEAR and SNL Director Dave McCary is asked his thoughts on film school and if he thinks it's important for aspiring filmmakers to attend. Dave says that although he did not finish film school, he does not want to discourage anyone who wants to go. He feels that it's up to the individual. For him, watching Youtube videos and learning via on-the job training, being on film sets, having a successful Youtube channel with his fellow Good Neighbor creators was enough for him to be skilled with the craft. However, he thinks that the contacts/alumni opportunities a film student can attain attending/graduating film school are certainly worth it if someone decides on this route. Dave weighed the options of time, student loan debt and his preference/ability to learn on his own when making this decision for whether to stay in film school.
