Laurène Southe, one of the poets featured in "Japa Fire: An Anthology of Poems on African and African Diasporic Migration" (CivicLeicester, 2024)[1] reads "Silent Genocide", one of her poems. Southe gave the reading on 10 October 2024 at an online event hosted by ArtReach as part of Journeys Festival International.[2] The event marked the launch of the Africa Migration Report Poetry Anthology Series, a multi-year, multi-volume initiative that is publishing poetry collections on the theme of African migration.

ABOUT THE POET

Laurène Southe, a 24-year-old Congolese-Austrian writer, discovered her passion for poetry at 17 through the Vienna African Writers Club. Her full-time pursuit began after a 2021 performance at the African Diaspora Festival. She showcased her work in group exhibitions and at the Vienna Design Week, and completed her first poetry book, Child of Congo, during a writer residency at Echo Correspondence, aiming to publish it in coming years.

ABOUT THE AFRICA MIGRATION REPORT POETRY ANTHOLOGY SERIES

The Africa Migration Report Poetry Anthology Series was inspired by the "Africa Migration Report: 2nd Edition" published by the African Union Commission and International Organisation for Migration in March 2024.[3]

Our call for submissions[4] is open 365 days a year because every day is Africa Day and because we would like to keep the conversation going for as long as it takes for the African migrant to be treated with dignity and respect on the continent and around the world.
