Raag Megh is an ancient raag of Hindustani Classical Music from the Malhar family. It is mentioned in the ancient Vedic scriptures. According to ancient Hindu scriptures raag megh is related to the legend of Lord Krishna when He uplifted and hold a whole mountain the "Govardhana parvat" on his little finger to save the people from the heavy rainfall and flood, at that very moment Lord Shiva started beating his "damru" which produced raag Megh, to help lord Krishna.
Raag Megh is a pleasingly sweet melody. The name of the raag is derived from the Sanskrit word Megh, meaning cloud. Just like any other raags from the Malhar family, Raag Megh Malhar is a raag of the monsoon and the rain and of deep contemplation. It is preferably played during late rain-drenched nights.
