“Zekari” – music and choreography was created simultaneously. the idea required renewal of the orchestra of the ballet. the rhythm of traditional Georgian drums was strengthened and enriched by modern drum-set, Adjarian bagpipes (chiboni) and clarinet were added to pipes and flutes; the melody line was filled with the sound of electronic keyboards.

this dance is named after the most beautiful pass, located in the geographic center of Georgia. etymology of the word “Zekari” symbolically indicates to the entrance into a new mysterious world.
in this dance, we see dancing elements preserved in folk dancing of highlands and lowlands of Georgia. men’s dance, enriched with dancing moves characteristic for different parts of Georgia is altered by fiery entrance of a women, built upon stylized Mtiuluri moves. for the first time in the history of Georgian dance, dancing women fulfill the same complicated combined steps and turns in whirling rhythm, as men do.
after this, during five years, eleven more new dances were staged, which made up a new program of the Georgian national ballet.
