This video is meant as a supplement to Xidnaf's video, "Catching Cots"(   • Catching Cots  ). I had to force myself to say "doll" with the "correct" vowel sound because I naturally pronounce it with the same vowel sound as the "caught" words; though Xidnaf was able to verify to me that that's probably just a quirk of my own speech. Which doesn't really surprise me since I pronounce a lot of things non standardly, like, I say "bolth" and "soulth" instead of "both" and "south"? I dunno.

Edit: since the recording of this video, I've noticed my pronunciation of other words with the vowel sounds and realized that the merger may have affected my speech more than I originally thought. All the the caught-vowel words are pronounced with the unmerged vowel, but the others are totally random. I pronounce some with the “correct” O sound, some with the merged AH sound, and some with the opposite AU sound. Weird. Also probably should have added words to the caught category that use the same diphthong vowel such as chocolate, dog and conquer.
