Warthog is the "All Golds in Story on Highest Difficulty" reward. While I don't agree with gatekeeping the vehicle behind story, most players did not know how to play Warthog correctly anyway so they did not feel rewarded by it, and that Is not only their fault because it's unintuitive design.

Warthog Is an exceptional choice for a tank role. I set up many kills for my teammate here.
