Excerpt from newspaper article promoting show
" Now this can't be right! Iggy Pop in Corpus Christi? Iggy Pop, who was punk before punk was cool? Iggy Pop, influence on ever from David Bowie to the Sex pistols? Iggy pop, whose anthems is "I Wanna Be Your Dog"?
And Yet he is booked for the Mars Club Sunday night, a performance that ought to bring cultists out of hiding, especially for a $3 cover. He is both a clown and a case for treatment.
Mr. Pop, or James Newell Osterberg as he calls himself in reality, has been know to exhibit appalling behavior at his concerts. Back in the late 60s, as leader of the notorious Stooges, his nihilistic behavior left his body covered in scars. At that time, he had nothing to gain from it but an underground rep, which has stayed with him even when he has moved on.
It was a gross-out, but I suspect that none of it will come to pass at mars. For the three or four years, the Ig has more sedate, writing songs and experimenting
One of his best recent songs, "Night-clubbing," was written with Bowie for Grace Jones
And on his last and mostly listenable album, "Zombie Birdhouse," he sang, " I don't wanna be a bad guy any more"
Be there Sunday night to see if he is as good as his word."
