I’m a planting clusters of 3-4ft tall Red Osier Dogwood in one of my deer bedding and habitat improvement areas. I stack some brush around the freshly planted dogwood plants in hopes they don’t get demolished by the deer. Hopefully in 10yrs or so these dogwoods can offer good side cover and browse to deer. The areas I’m planting these Dogwood are mainly dominated by buckthorn. I’m a putting them in an area I have already removed the buckthorn so they get plenty of sunlight and won’t have much to compete against.
