About ectopic pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a pregnancy implants outside of the uterus (womb). It affects 1 in 80 pregnancies and is a leading cause of death in early pregnancy. It is a life-threatening condition and overwhelming for those who experience the condition and their family. A woman or person faces their own mortality, often has emergency surgery, loses a pregnancy and is left with worries about the future, all at the same time.

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust is passionate about raising awareness of the condition so that symptoms are known and can be identified early to enable people to get the care that they need quickly. We believe providing information about the condition helps people understand what is happening. Empowering people results in an increase in personal knowledge and reduces a degree of stress and confusion, helping the healing process. We are also there to support through the emotional process of trying to get pregnant again.

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust is a small UK based charity that strives to provide information, education and support for those affected by ectopic pregnancy. We work hard to ensure that those who are undergoing diagnosis or treatment and their families are equipped with information via their healthcare team and, on leaving hospital, have someone to talk to and space in which to find more information.
