Описание к видео Bill Clifton at St Andrews Folk Club 17-6-73 artiste only

Based on an archived recording of singer BILL CLIFTON at St Andrews Folk Club in the Star Hotel, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, June 1973.

Born 1931 and raised in Riderwood, Maryland, U.S.A. Bill Clifton discovered his love for country music through radio and records and began singing and playing the guitar at the age of 12.

An American bluegrass singer and musician (an excellent performer on guitar and autoharp) he is credited with organizing one of the first bluegrass festivals, at Oak Leaf Park in Luray, Virginia in 1961.

His first recording, produced in 1952, included old-time, bluegrass, and revival music. He met and played with artists such as A.P. Carter, The Stanley Brothers, and Woodie Guthrie and had many connections throughout old-time, bluegrass, country, and folk music - as reflected in his unique repertoire.

In the early 50’s he formed a band, the Dixie Mountain Boys, playing radio stations and in '53, the band signed to Blue Ridge Records playing traditional bluegrass.

In '54 he enlisted in the Marine corps re-entering the music business in '56 - putting together his own studio band.

In '63, his family moved to England and he toured Europe playing folk clubs including a couple of appearances at the St Andrews Folk Club in ‘72 and ‘73.

Bill and his family returned to the US in '78 and settled down in Virginia where he set up his own recording label Elf Records.

In 2008 he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Fame.
