Expanding the existing device diagnostics, KROHNE has developed new application diagnostics for the H250 M40 variable area flowmeter.
These are now available, and are described as Continuous Float Monitoring – CFM.
Float blockages caused by dirt or pressure bumps as well as compressional vibrations from gas or intermittent flows are identified and signalled. In order to increase application reliability, CFM monitors the movement of the float using innovative software algorithms.
First, it detects any sticking of the float: this can occur if there are significant impurities in the medium, or if there are repeated pressure surges in the pipeline system.
Also, gas compression oscillations or pulsating flows are identified. Such conditions, when the float position is unstable and constantly moving and therefore is subject to increased wear.
Lastly, but not least important, after maintenance work, if the float was installed incorrectly or not at all, this is indicated. Even interference from external magnetic fields can be detected within a certain range. The notification can be classified according to NAMUR recommendation NE107 from „just for information“ up to „device failure and corresponding error current signal“.
These new functions are implemented as standard in every new sensor electronics, and, thanks to the intelligent modularity, can easily be added to existing devices by exchanging the sensor module in the field. Corrective measures taken in the application on this basis, help optimize the measuring accuracy and extend the lifetime of the measuring devices.
