THE BEST WAY TO HANG PLATES ON THE WALL SECURELY - HOW TO HANG VINTAGE PLATES AND PLATTERS

Want to display your favorite plates but you're nervous about hanging them on the wall? Let me show you how I hang vintage plates! I'll show you how I plan a plate arrangement and measure for hanging, plus my favorite plate hanger so that you can feel confident about displaying your plates too!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION:
"My plate is not hanging flat against the wall. What should I do?"
Sometimes plates that have more curvature will require a longer nail than that which comes with the plate hanger. Make sure you use a nail that is long enough to be securely anchored in the wall but stick out far enough to allow the plate to rest flat against the wall. If you are still having difficulty, especially with something like a shallow bowl or deeply curved plate, you can tie a loop of clear fishing line or a loop of twine through the 'V' of the hanger and hang the loop on the hook instead. (Make sure you tie the knot very securely!) This will give it more flexibility to hang flat. Alternatively you can try slightly bending the 'V' of the hanger to make it more pronounced, but take care not to compromise the product or crack the rubber coating. This is also very difficult to do as the wire is very thick. Hope that helps!

VIDEO NOTE:
I completely missed telling you that the measurement from the top of the plate to the top of the plate hanger will give you the placement of the hook, but not the nail. You will need to subtract about 1/4-1/2" for your nail placement. Thank you kindly to a commenter for catching this omission!

IMPORTANT TIP:
The plate hangers I have linked below are coated - they are not bare wire. I do not recommend using bare wire hangers as they can scratch your plates! Be sure to place the hooks gently on the plates and avoid scooting them around too much. Be sure to measure your plate and choose an appropriately sized plate hanger (they come in different size ranges). Being too loose will not hold your plate securely while being overly tight may put too much pressure on your plate.
