Aristotle's theory of citizenship /western political thought / political science

Описание к видео Aristotle's theory of citizenship /western political thought / political science

This is part 2 of aristotle video series in which I have covered Aristotle's theory of citizenship. In part 1, i have covered Aristotle's introduction and his theory of state.
in this video Aristotle's theory of citizenship has been explained completely. Aristotle thought that every person residing in state should not be given citizenship. only those who can participate in legislative and judicial functions of state should get citizenship and others should be excluded. on this basis he said that women, slaves, old people, children, and foreigners should not get citizenship because they can not participate in affairs of state due to different reasons.
only native born adult Greek male, belonging to property class can participate in affairs of state so they should get citizenship.
Aristotle , said in his book Politics that, "He who has the power to take part in deliberative or judicial administration of any state is said by us to be a citizen of that state" ( - Aristotle, politics )
Aristotle also said that citizens should perform their duties. according to him being a good man doesn't mean you are a good citizen.
"It is not always the same thing to be a good man and a good citizen"
- Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics
There are also many criticisms of this theory but at last we can't ignore this theory because it has a positive message also that citizens should actively participate in the affairs of state and should perform their duties.
