‘Day Zero’, The Future of Water | Dr Srinivas Chokkakula | Suresh Babu | Gargi Rawat

During the months of April and May, cities across the Indian sub-continent are crippled by some of the highest temperatures ever recorded. As a result, vast populations across India were faced with a preview of the consequences of global warming and poor resource conservation; the threat of taps running empty; the threat of water scarcity and a further deepening of existing inequalities. Many of the world’s largest urban populations are inching closer to their ‘Day Zero’. WWF estimates that about 30 Indian cities will experience increased water scarcity risks by 2050. However, through innovation and social action, solutions are possible. Young activists, thinkers, policy-makers, and scientists are trying to find ways to reduce water waste. Our panel explores.
