The New River Land Trust secured a grant with the Town of Narrows and local Ralph Robertson from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation Preservation Trust Fund to purchase a 107-acre property on the north side of Wolf Creek Mountain. The land overlooks the Town of Narrows and the New River and is next to Mill Creek Nature Park. The acres will be added to the Mill Creek Park conservation easement, expanding the existing park and conserved area to 255 acres.

The property has an existing 1.5-mile trail that is currently used by the public to access Sentinel Point, the peak of Wolf Creek Mountain. New trails are planned to better connect to the existing Mill Creek Nature Park's 10 miles of trails.

The land also features large caverns with historical and conservation significance. Giant Caverns was a popular tourist attraction in the early 20th century. While closed to the public for many decades now, the caverns are home to 2 globally rare species.

This project will expand outdoor recreation in Giles County and the New River Valley and forever protect this important landscape.
