• protein synthesized in liver.
• Normal values: 30- 200 mg/dl
• Function – transports free Hb in the plasma to reticuloendothelial system for recycling.
• Low levels occur due to hemolytic disease and Severe hepatocellular diseases.
• Low levels – lead to ppt of free Hb in kidneys and cause damage
• High levels occur due to Inflammatory processes and myocardial infarction.
