The VWER Panel was a joint event of the Virtual World Educators Roundtable, now in its 10th year in Second Life, and the Virtual Worlds Mooc (VWMOOC, formerly called SLMOOC), now in its fifth year. The panel was chaired by Sheila Webber (Senior Lecturer, Information School, University of Sheffield, UK): Sheila Yoshikawa in SL. The panellists were:
(1) Heike Philp. Heike is CEO of let’s talk online sprl which provides technology support for language learning and events in real-time via the internet. She was managing director of LANCELOT, an accredited teacher training center for synchronous language teaching by means of virtual technology/worlds.
(2) Dr Evelyn McElhinney (Kali Pizarro in Second Life) Lecturer in the department of Nursing and Community Health at Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland. She has taught extensively in SL, is co-lead of VWER and her PhD was on Living in 3D Social Virtual Worlds and the Influence on Health Literacy, Health Behaviour and Wellbeing;
(3) Niela Miller http://www.peoplesystemspotential.com... (Marly Milena in SL) who is a Gestalt therapist, composer, musician, artist, actor, educator, trainer, coach, and facilitator and has been teaching and creating in Second Life since 2007. Panellists responded to the following four questions:
What have you done in a VW that you are happiest with?
What are the features of the VW you are using that are particularly suited to what you want to do?
What project or teaching would you do in a VW if you had vast resources (e.g. enough to buy computers/access/facilities for learners, not just resources for development).
