How can severe anaemia be managed successfully without blood transfusion? In a riveting fast-paced lecture, Kelly Johnson-Arbor, MD takes us through her experience in doing just that in a Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Johnson-Arbor is board certified in Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. Currently, she serves as the medical director of hyperbaric medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and is co-medical director of National Capital Poison Center. Dr. Johnson-Arbor maintains medical toxicology and hyperbaric medicine clinics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and regularly teaches medical toxicology and hyperbaric medicine topics to third- and fourth-year medical students, residents, and pharmacology students. She is an associate faculty member of the MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety (MIQS). She is active in professional medical societies and has served as secretary/treasurer of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine since 2017. Dr. Johnson-Arbor is an instructor for introductory hyperbaric medicine courses, has authored multiple published medical articles on toxicology and hyperbaric medicine related topics, and enjoys speaking on these subjects as well. Her current research interests include heavy metal poisoning, the impact of hyperbaric oxygen administration on Eustachian tube function, and the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the bloodless medicine population.
