Eastern Screech Owls are fairly common but suitable habitat is always shrinking and there is always strong competition for available nest holes among several species. They easily take to manmade structures like a nest box. Building one is a great way you can help out. And... how cool is it to have an owl nesting in your backyard!? It's easy to do and it can be a fun family activity as well. I've had great success with a project I've been working on for the past two years- building and installing the boxes.
