Historian Robert Tombs has written an article in the Telegraph, responding to my commentary on YouTube and in the Critic, of his comments at the Now & England conference.

Tombs said that you "learn to be English", and that English identity has nothing to do with ethnicity or ancestry. This is just not true. Nations are comprised of peoples: an unbroken chain of families, from whom culture and history flow. A people precede a nation, not the other way around.

'We have a very clear choice', Tombs writes. 'Either we do everything possible to make them and their eventual descendants part of our nation. Or we treat them as perpetual outsiders, “ethnic minorities” in a tribalised England.'

But you won't get multiculturalism. You definitely won't get assimilation. You will see a wholly different moral system replacing the culture of Britain, the more that demographic change gives it democratic demand.

We shouldn’t redefine ourselves to accommodate our opposites. Instead, we should assert our identity without any confusion as to who we are. Those who don’t like it should leave.
