The Piaseczno-Grójecka Narrow Gauge Railway, also known as the Grójecka Commuter Railway, began its history in 1898. A hundred years later, the Piaseczno-Grójeckie Narrow Gauge Railway Society was established.

In 1997, a group of supporters and local activists from Piaseczno was formed with the aim of protecting the narrow gauge railway.

In the spring of 1998, this group formally became an association, taking the name "Towarzystwo Restauracji Grójeckiej Kolej Wąskotorowej" (Restauration Society of the Grójecka Narrow Gauge Railway), and the first president was Tadeusz Warsza, a long-time social activist and Piaseczno city councilor.

The "driving force" of the association was Jerzy Chmielewski from the beginning, later the President of the association.

In September 2000, the Act on the commercialisation and restructuring of the state-owned enterprise PKP was signed, which created the possibility of transferring unnecessary railway assets, including narrow-gauge railways, to local government units for transport-related purposes.
