This epic group of three lifts is located in a residential building in Berne. The building is very interesting from an architectural point of view as it contains maisonette apartments. The layout though is rather uncommon. The maisonettes consist of a smaller floor that is located on the same floor as the access corridor going through the long axis of the building. the entrances to the maisonettes are on the left and right of the said corridor. Now comes the twisting part: The maisonettes on one side of the corridor occupy the floor above, the ones on the other sides occupy the floor below. This helps in understanding the spacing of the floors served by the lifts: Maisonettes on floor 2 go down to 1 and 3. Maisonettes on floor 5 go to 6 and 4. Floor 7 is a separate floor with storage rooms and no apartments. Maisonettes on floor 9 go to 8 and 10. 12 goes to 10 and 13 and so on. The floor A (= 20, A stands for attika) leads directly to the roof. The smaller back part of the building contains 2 small apartments per floor where the top most ones are located on floor 20. The small apartments that are not located one one of the floors served by the lifts can only be accessed by the stairs.

The Lifts are still original from the construction of the building in the early 1970s. They were built by Schindler with R-series fixtures and must originally have had either a relay controller or an Aconic transistor controller. The controllers were replaced by a triplex Miconic B system in 1993. The motors were kept original since they're compatible with the Dynatron 2 drive system. The whole drive train was replaced on lifts A and B in 2015 with new Schindler W250 winches and a Variodyn mod, so the Mic B controller could still be used. During this time, the W57 of Lift C was the only original Dynatron 2 Machine still in operation. Especially noticeable in the lift car was the loud bang that occurred when switching from SH1 to SH2 when travelling multiple floors.
But everything good must come to an end. In summer of 2021 the winch of lift C was also replaced with a Variodyn mod. Since Schindler no longer produces the W250 winches, a Sassi MF84 was bought and installed. It would have been really nice to find a gearless ZATop SM250 engine here but sadly this was not the chosen option.
