Описание к видео 'Dust in the Wind:' slideshow by Jim Lehr, 1979, featuring the loess bluffs of NW Missouri

In 1979, my father gave a presentation at a state convention of the Missouri Prairie Foundation on the loess bluffs of northwest Missouri. He began his presentation by taking 3 & half minutes to play 'Dust in the Wind' by Kansas & go through this slideshow. For my Dad on Fathers Day 2016, I have tried to recreate that presentation here.

These were scanned digitally using scanner te from slides in the year 2004, & I have had to make some deletions & minor tweaks

Over the last 5 years, he'd taken pictures of the bluffs & bluegrass that overlooked a valley created by the Missouri River. After the song ended, he went back through all the photos at a more leisurely pace, explaining how the bluffs were formed, the grasses that thrived in the soil, the animals that came to eat them, & the people who followed the animals.

I was 9 years old at the time, & many of the photographs were taken from my back yard or somewhere on a bluff nearby; this land was my playground growing up. I can remember Dad practicing this slideshow a few times, making adjustments here & there. I came to be impressed that he would have a couple of places where the photo exactly matched a lyric from the song.

I can remember watching the presentation & happy with the positive reception his audience gave him.

The music is by Kansas. All photographs by Jim Lehr & may not be republished without permission.
