The Alamo, located in San Antonio, Texas, is a historic Spanish mission and fortress compound famous for its role in the Texas Revolution, particularly the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Originally named Misión San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo served as a home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly 70 years before it became a fortress.

The Battle of the Alamo took place from February 23 to March 6, 1836, and was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Despite being vastly outnumbered, a small group of Texan defenders, including well-known figures such as James Bowie, William B. Travis, and Davy Crockett, fought against the Mexican forces led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna. The Texan defenders were ultimately defeated, and all the Alamo's defenders were killed. However, the battle became a symbol of resistance to oppression and the struggle for independence, with the rallying cry "Remember the Alamo!" motivating the Texan army in subsequent battles.

Today, the Alamo is a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting millions of visitors each year. It stands as a testament to the courage and sacrifice of its defenders and is an important cultural and historical symbol for the state of Texas and the United States as a whole. The site includes the iconic Alamo Church, the Long Barrack, which is one of the oldest buildings in San Antonio and served as a barracks for the soldiers, and several other structures. The Alamo also features exhibits on its history, the Texas Revolution, and the Republic of Texas, offering a comprehensive view of its significance.
