The VoiceWhat? Interview Series with Kate Higgins

This is an up-close-and-personal interview I had with voiceover actor, Kate Higgins, in the comforts of her living room. Recorded toward the end of the quarantine, Kate discusses her move to LA, falling into a career in voiceover, becoming the voice for Sakura Haruno in the animé series, Naruto and more. I hope you'll find her funny, down-to-earth storytelling as charming and irresistible as I do.

I met Kate in the mid 2000s soon after I'd relocated from the east coast to LA. We had an immediate chemistry partly because of common interests and background: we're both singers/songwriters, both originally from the deep South (Kate from Auburn, me from Jackson, MS) and both share a love of doing voices (though I don't do it for a living like she does!). During the quarantine when many of us were out of regular work and not playing as many in-person gigs, I started a series called LAST FRIDAY COLLABS where I'd release songs written or recorded with other musicians. Some of those musicians were also close friends, as in the case of Kate Higgins. I thought it would be fun to interview her. What was maybe going to be a 60-second soundbite turned into a series with multiple episodes.

As for the title of this series...when Kate started chatting it up with a woman in a waiting room of a music studio soon after moving to LA, the woman (an exec from Disney) said "You work in voiceover right?" and Kate replied "Voice-what?" The lady went on to say "You have such a great voice for kids programming" Turns out that Disney lady was right.

Thanks for listening!
