DIY Repair: Fixing a Broken Fishing Rod!

Breaking your favourite rod should not really be the end of its life and as rod manufacturers tend to discontinue rods like they are fashion not tools, repairing is a great alternative to the bin. I keep a little store of salvaged rods to reuse them to repair others and this case the rod wasn't actually mine, it was repaired for charity that takes people who need a bit of R&R out into the great outdoors the best medicine.


tools and materials

salvaged donor fishing rod to make the new joint, you can get bits on ebay but i have my own collection

resin: for the glue up I used PRO-Glu rod building expoy, but 30 min epoxy works well

Thread: black nylon grade A, Fuji metalic sliver

Coating resin: three coats of Threadmaster rod finish epoxy

Turning motor; Converted microwave turntable motor bought from ebay
