Yogi Berra was a Major League Baseball legend, Hall of Fame catcher, manager, and coach whose impact on the game is unmatched. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972, Berra was a 15-time All-Star, three-time American League MVP, and a ten-time World Series champion as a player — a record that still stands today.

Spending most of his career with the New York Yankees from 1946 to 1963, Berra compiled a .285 batting average, hit 358 home runs, and drove in 1,430 runs. He also played briefly for the New York Mets in 1965. As a catcher, Berra holds the all-time record for shutouts caught and famously caught Don Larsen’s perfect game during the 1956 World Series.

Berra later managed both the Yankees and the Mets, winning additional World Series titles as a coach. His career included legendary moments, controversies, and a highly publicized feud with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner that lasted nearly 14 years before reconciliation.

Beyond baseball, Yogi Berra was known worldwide for his humorous and insightful sayings, his service during World War II, and his lasting influence on American sports culture. In 2015, he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

Yogi Berra passed away in September 2015 at the age of 90 and is buried alongside his wife Carmen — leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
