Culture is a beautiful piece of tradition as it’s fulfilling and brings out the beauty in our differences. Well, at least most of the time. How about when you find out that your people are about to turn you into a sacrifice? That was the unfortunate fate of three children among the Inca community whose mummies are well preserved. The hair on the mommies creates a vivid picture of the capaconche practice that used mind-altering drugs to sacrifice these children. There are claims that the rituals must have taken close to a year before their ultimate destination being death. They used a condition of cocoa and alcohol to drug them to their demise. What a freaky way to be taken out, yikes!

If you’re a mum, you know how annoying it is when you'd like a few extra minutes of sleep but your toddler is up. They begin to demand food or whatever thing they please, and you have to oblige. Such mornings are usually a dread. Erika's mom, however, lived to tell a different story. She woke up rather late and wondered how she’d been able to clock in more sleep time. Wondering if her baby was occupied with play or some other form of disruption, she got up to find her. She looked everywhere in her house, but her little girl was nowhere in sight. She panicked and went to check outside. She couldn't believe it when she found the frozen body of her daughter outside. Scared out of her mind, she wrapped a couple of blankets over her and waited for paramedics. I know the 21st of February 2001 will forever remain marked in Leila's mind. Luckily the doctors were able to resuscitate her, and a few days later, she was back to the ways of any one-year-old.

We all like to try a little adventure, get out of our comfort zone and partake in a few fun activities. Something like what Anna Bagenholm and her two colleagues were up to when this unfortunate incident occurred. In 1999 May, this group of friends set out to go skiing on Kjole mountain in Norway. They’d been having a good time when their somber mood was interrupted by an accident. The ice under Anna's feet broke, and the icy water had taken her in. Her friends had tried to rescue her, but we're only able to get a hold of her feet. Her whole body was under the ice. She tried to free herself and come back up but she was stuck. A little air bubble she’d found in the water was the only thing that kept her alive for longer. After some time, she stopped fighting. She was retrieved almost one hour and a half later by a rescue team. A year later, she’d made remarkable progress.
