Hi all, Musa here. I wrote the words to „ Accelerate" a few years ago. I was doing what I did a lot at that time, which was to shuffle through iTunes, find an instrumental which matched how I was feeling, buy it and then start writing to it. I bought a tune and listened to it for hours on end, and somewhere in all of that I wrote these lyrics. I performed them as a poem at first, either a capella or with a band behind me, and if we did put the lyrics to music we would do them as a drum and bass track. But when Krisz listened to the lyrics years later, he said, these words are melancholic. This isn't a fast song. And he was right, and he and his studio mate Cord crafted a beat around it. “Accelerate” is about grief, loss and perseverance - it's about those times when life is so bleak that you can't stand and confront your pain, you just have to run from it. There's a lot of sadness in this song, but also hope, the hope that if you flee fast enough you might just find happiness waiting for you. After we had the beat, we went into the studio with Reba Mangope and she came up with the beautiful melody and the haunting words of the chorus. And so finally the lyrics of „Accelerate" finally have the same mood of instrumental with which they were first created thirteen years ago. It's a perfect fit.

Lyrics:
“Accelerate”
Verse 1:
Well, I’ve a hell of a terrible need -
See, I never move at less than incredible speed;
I use several chemicals, never the weed
And I’m living life high as my medical fees; I...
Never hesitate, never meditate, never get up late
If I get a message on my Face-
Book, never let it wait, I accelerate,
I accelerate, I accelerate -
Chorus:
I run away from the eyes and the lies
I run away to the hills and the skies
Run away from the sorrows of tomorrow
Ain’t no pity in the tears that I cry
How I run, how I run, how I run to forget it
Ain’t no way, ain’t no way, ain’t no way I regret it
Verse 2:
Never cook or bake, stick a plate in the microwave
Always make complaints if delayed in a minor way
On the train, plane, always on the Internet,
ITunes, buy music, soon into debt;
In their beds some count sheep in the night sky
To get to sleep, but I’m dreaming of wi-fi,
Why, I might try Ebay or Amazon
Salary is gone but I carry on
Chorus:
I run away from the eyes and the lies
I run away to the hills and the skies
Run away from the sorrows of tomorrow
Ain’t no pity in the tears that I cry
How I run, how I run, how I run to forget it
Ain’t no way, ain’t no way, ain’t no way I regret it
Verse 3:
Channelling my pain into pace of escape
The gloom’s in pursuit but I’m making it wait
I’m the quickest thing scientists have seen in a while -
I travel at the speed of denial
Cannot be a tragedy if I cannot see it
For the time being, my strategy is fleeing
Package up my feelings and stash them in the back of my mind
I hammer on the gas, then I drive
Chorus
BBXO make a style of music they call “Future Blues” – as it sits between spoken word and rap, between politics and pop. They formed when Krisz Kreuzer, of urban blues outfit Brixtonboogie, met up with Musa Okwonga, a London-born poet who had recently moved to Berlin. Their aim was to make songs that spoke of love, struggle and friendship in a way that was moving, often rousing, and ultimately uplifting. Kreuzer, whose work has been praised as “Blues for the 21st century”, quickly found that Brixtonboogie’s instrumentals – a diverse blend of Blues, Soul and Electronica – were the perfect foil for the rapped, sung and spoken lyrics of Okwonga, described by Q Magazine as “like a globe-trotting Mike Skinner”. BBXO have crafted a bass-heavy and accessible sound that is urgent, passionate and powerful. Their tunes – which travel from soul to dancehall, from blues to grime to pop – are suitable for the whole range of moods; the late-afternoon euphoria of a midsummer festival, the quiet evening at home, the lonely but hopeful train journey towards a new adventure.
