Over 100 firefighters battled flames for 2 hours and 39 minutes in a large one-story commercial building that housed three separate businesses, and was part of a row of other commercial buildings on Van Nuys Boulevard. The primary function of the businesses in the fire building was the storage/sale of textiles but a church also operated out of the rear of the building. Crews arrived to find smoke showing, but after making entry and ventilating the roof above, flames began shooting over 30 feet out of the building. Firefighters relocated their efforts to the exterior of the building for the remainder of the fire fight, using ladder pipes and other large hose streams to fight the fire from the outside. Eventually the roof collapsed, giving firefighters a more clear shot through the top, and successfully kept the fire from spreading to the adjacent businesses, which share a wall with the fire building. Thankfully, no one was inside and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
