Irondequoit Historical Society Presents Holocaust Remembrance

Описание к видео Irondequoit Historical Society Presents Holocaust Remembrance

The Irondequoit Historical Society welcomed Marcia Birken and Marjorie Searl to the library on May 2nd to discuss their Holocaust Remembrance project.

In the Spring of 2021, they began a project to recognize and remember the approximately 115 Holocaust survivors who are buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. As co-chairs, they have raised funds to erect a Holocaust Monument, as well as for the creation of a Holocaust Archive on the Friends of Mount Hope (FOMH) website.

In July of 2023, their committee received a grant from the Jewish Federation to create a new, comprehensive database that includes the Holocaust research of three organizations: the Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information (CHAI) of the Jewish Federation; the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Project at Monroe Community College (HGHRP), and the Friends of Mount Hope. This multi-faceted project will include updated audio and video file formats, interactive maps of Mount Hope and Britton Road Cemeteries, and a more complete list of survivors who settled in the Rochester area.

Recorded May 2, 2024
