Released on February 25 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, it follows a customizable character on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord. The game is presented in a third-person perspective, allowing players to explore an open world divided into six main areas, primarily using the steed Torrent. It includes hidden dungeons, various weapons, magic spells, stealth mechanics, checkpoints for fast travel, and an online multiplayer mode for cooperative and player versus player combat. The game's development aimed to create an open-world experience inspired by Dark Souls, with Martin contributing the backstory and Miyazaki writing the in-game narrative. Elden Ring received widespread acclaim for its open world, gameplay, and setting, despite some technical issues, winning several Game of the Year awards and selling 25 million copies. The downloadable content, Shadow of the Erdtree, was released in June 2024.
