At the centre of the Delhi Durbar (1902 1903) to mark Edward V11 coronation as King and Emperor of India was the Coronation Ball with 4,000 guests. When Lady Curzon, wife of the Viceroy of India, entered she was spectacular and beautiful figure, almost six feet tall wearing elaborate and expensive dress designed to accentuate this and signify Britain’s imperial greatness.
