​During a recent Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee hearing, Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) raised concerns about U.S. foreign aid potentially being diverted to terrorist organizations. He questioned Gregg Roman, Executive Director of the Middle East Forum, about reports indicating that approximately $40 million per week was being sent to the Taliban. Roman confirmed this and further stated that groups such as Al-Shabaab in Somalia, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah have received indirect assistance from U.S. foreign aid. ​

In response to these findings, Rep. Burchett introduced the No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act (H.R. 260), aiming to prevent U.S. funds from reaching terrorist groups. The proposed legislation seeks to compel the State Department to develop policies opposing financial support to the Taliban and mandates reporting on cash assistance programs in Afghanistan. ​
