Radicalisation & Addiction: The Dark Side Of Gaming | CNA Correspondent

Video games have become the largest and most expansive industry in the world of entertainment. By some estimates, the sector is now worth more than 170 billion US dollars - bigger than the music and movie industries combined. And it's still growing, even amid – or perhaps as a result of a global pandemic that has seen many isolated at home.

There are some three billion gamers around the world, and more than half of those are from the Asia Pacific region. But with the increasing popularity of gaming come mounting concerns over its detrimental effects on mental health, and the abuse and harassment of female gamers. There are also fears that gaming has become a recruiting tool for right-wing extremists.
