Sales Per Square Foot

This video discusses sales per square foot (or sales per square meter, depending on the measurement system where you happen to live).

Sales per square foot is a metric frequently used in the retail industry. It is calculated as follows:
in-store sales revenue / square footage of the selling area

The in-store sales revenue does not include online sales. The square footage of the selling area does not include space where items are not sold (e.g., a storeroom where excess inventory is kept).

Sales per square foot measures how efficiently a company makes use of its space. High-performing companies are able to make good use of the space they have (e.g., the placement of goods in the aisles, the placement of display cases) to generate the maximum amount of sales revenue.
