This video uses Nietzsche’s key (GOAT) work ‘The Birth of Tragedy’ in combination with the artwork of Peter Paul Rubens to explore the much discussed problem of anxiety in Gen Z via the additional mythological wisdom of Silenus the demi-god of the goat-like Satyrs.

Other material includes the art analysis of Morgan Meis, the paintings of Henri Rousseau, and Jorge Luis Borges short story ‘The Immortal’.

*CORRECTION* (I am blaming the heat for addling my brain) - I cut and pasted from this Borges pdf to produce the slide in the video in which I deliberate over the meaning of the word "advertiginem" (the slide's quote is taken from the bottom of page 15 in the pdf) which in the pdf is erroneously printed as one word. If I had seen it correctly as two words
"ad vertiginem" (which I should have) there is no mystery at all - it just means "to the point of giddiness/vertigo" - "vertigo" isn't exactly a difficult word to derive from the Latin phrase!
