MDC Hon3 2-8-0 after Drive-train Replacement

Описание к видео MDC Hon3 2-8-0 after Drive-train Replacement

This is a follow up to some previous videos where I was working on replacing the drive-trains on some Model Diecasting kits I built back in high school. In this installment we'll look at the inside frame 2-8-0 after some major work.

For this particular model I wanted to be extremely careful not to damage any paint or details so I limited myself to a motor that would actually fit with no machine work to the boiler. I found some extremely nice 5 pole skew wound 055 size motors on Ebay coming out of a shop in Germany. The motors are Chinese.

After replacing the entire NWSL gear train with a new NWSL gear train, I trued and re-quartered the wheel sets, fitted some new crank pins, and installed the motor with as much flywheel as I could safely fit on the back.

It doesn't run perfect, but it runs a heck of a lot better and slower. The original NWSL Sagami 1225 motor was extremely weak and had a speed of about 17,000 RPMs at 12V. The new Motraxx 055 motor runs at about at about 13,000 RPMs at 12V. Still fast but I'll take the speed reduction and 2x the torque. At 10V it runs very comfortably at 10,000 RPMs which ends up being about 35 scale MPH at the wheels. Not bad.

Here's the data sheet on the Motraxx motors, the 055 is the good one for re-motoring these models:
